"The Little Negro" is a piano piece composed by Claude Debussy, originally titled "Le Petit Nègre." It's a lively and playful composition, often used as a teaching piece for young pianists due to its accessible melody and rhythmic elements.
Debussy composed it in 1909, and it reflects his interest in exploring non-Western musical influences, particularly African rhythms and melodies. The title, though considered offensive today, was common at the time and referred to the portrayal of African people in popular culture.
Annabelle Gong was 6 when she learnt this piece. She is currently learning with Mr Simon Soh in Singapore.
